LYTT is a fast-growing software start up backed by BP and are embarking on a period of really exciting growth. Their proprietary analytics technology provides real-time asset surveillance to deliver practical production insights. LYTT delivered over $400m of value to their customers last year and we're looking to double their headcount this year(25 lovely humans to 50) and again next year (50 to 100).
LYTT discovered that fibre optic cables inside oil wells can act as a distributed array of microphones. Drawing on advances in AI, machine learning and cloud-based computing LYTT have designed and deployed ground-breaking technology that interprets data captured from cables deep under the earth's surface into actionable information. LYTT listen for sounds (such as water or sand entering an oil well) and match them to a library of recognised acoustic signatures – as an analogy, their algorithms have been described as the Shazam of oil and gas - giving their customers a thorough understanding of exactly what is happening across their assets in real-time. LYTT are now looking at the operational impact they can make on businesses working in other dark places - tunnels, pipelines, water, cables, subways, the ocean floor - anywhere you can’t see, they make the invisible, visible.

Our Goal

I joined LYTT and was immediately tasked with hiring Front-End and Full-Stack Developers, having used cord at a previous company, I knew exactly where to go to find them.

Our Situation
When I joined LYTT, there weren't any hiring managers to help source and reach out to the people we needed in the positions we were hiring for. I was tasked with doing most of the hiring myself, so having a process that was manageable for one person was important. The other main problem we faced was the competitive nature of the Software EngineerrThere's a lot of competition, everyone's looking for the same people.
Using cord
Speaking directly, with the context I need
As a tech recruiter, I used cord to speak to candidates who are looking for a job - it cuts out the passive candidate market until I want to specifically find passive people.
On cord, because people are actively looking for work, you know that someone is actually ready to switch roles before you reach out. To add to that, you’ve got their availability, salary expectations, portfolios, it cuts to the chase for both parties of what you’re looking for. Opening doors with Remote
On cord, it’s easy to see who’s looking for remote specific work. Profiles of Engineers have remote preferences detailing their remote preference, their work location eligibility and how many days they can work in-office. Being able to clearly see this information has really helped us reach those candidates that live in different parts of the country because of our stance on remote working. For me, the stream filtering is the real winner because you can pinpoint exactly what skills you’re looking for - you don’t waste a lot of time with people that don’t have the necessary experience or skills that aren’t quite a match for your roles. It’s a quicker way of sourcing.
Once I’ve found someone to message, I’ve also had a good response rate from Engineers that I’m happy with - about 46% of the people I reach out to respond positively and want to move forward in the hiring process. It’s more than enough for us to make hires, and for us to hire quickly too.

Our Result

Within 7 weeks of joining LYTT and getting set up on cord, we managed to make 2 hires.
